League Committee Meeting – 14th May 2019
Apologies from Chris Parkes
Present Howard, Geoff, Tony, Mark, Nic
Wilden v Worcester Police: Andy Shuck (Wilden) attended to explain first hand why his team failed to make an appearance at the 10×10 first round game arranged with Worcester Police. He offered his sincere apologies (already emailed all parties) accepted full responsibility, agreed and paid all cost and forfeited the game. There were exceptional circumstances which were accepted by Worcester Police who suggested that they would prefer to re-schedule the match, rather than just accept a walkover, so long as Wilden cover all expenses incurred. Andy Shuck was asked to discuss this with Mark Chappell (W. Police) and inform the committee of their decision. The committee would then make a final decision.
Horn and Trumpet match at Wilden last Monday evening attracted criticism from an umpire re cones/markers and grass length. Wilden Officers and staff were unaware that the game was taking place as it was a re-scheduled match. Secretary to speak with H&T
Results Secretary: Tony is to email Aziz with all results to ensure he has all the data he needs to keep the play-cricket site up to date.
Audrey Burley Memorial Cup: Hagley, Kidderminster and Stagborough all progressed. See above (Wilden v Worcester City Police) for outstanding game. West Hagley, Quatt A and Enville go into the Plate. Semi finals are on August 14th with Finals Day at Quatt on August 21st.
Early season matches (April) were recorded as a concern with regard to light. It was decided to propose a strengthening of the league’s rules on this issue with suggested 6 pm start for full 12 over game, or restricted 10 overs per side from 6.30 pm. If bad light persists with danger to participants games can be abandoned by umpire decision (no result). Clubs should consider the use of pink or other high visibility balls.
All teams will be required to nominate a captain and vice-captain.
The results posted on the website could be improved.
Finances are in line with predictions.
The chairman has secured a promise of new sponsorship for the Senior Cup to the value of £100.
Umpires standard is possibly the highest it has ever been with senior officials joining us from Birmingham Premier and Shropshire leagues. Thanks go to our hard working umpire appointments representative. Allocation is still a challenge as we still need more officials.
DBS Checks: we need to confirm the current position.
Presentation Evening as before with possible invitations extended to nominated people from each club, spreading the net wider.
